The EB-5 Visa Program

The EB-5 program allows foreign investors to obtain a green card if they invest in a new commercial enterprise that creates ten jobs in the U.S. The number of visas is limited to 10,000 per each year. It is a great way for immigrants to come and stay in the U.S. legally and create much needed employment in the country. The investor and the family can stay in the country for two years. To be eligible for the program, the person must find a commercial enterprise in the U.S. It could be a partnership, holding company, proprietorship, joint venture, corporation or any other form that can invest individually or jointly with others. The Capital Investment Requirement varies based on the location, based on 150 percent of the unemployment rate with a minimum of $500,000.

The program is expected to be in force until September 2015 and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently announced that it is extending the program. Since the start of the program, it is gaining popularity. A new $88 million Marriot International in Seattle, Washington was funded by those who are looking to take advantage of the program. It has become the most popular program for the hotel developer who has 14 such projects.
